One of Ealing CC's Vice-Presidents and Life Member Don Shelley has been appointed as New League President and all at EalingCC are delighted to congratulate him on this honour.

It has now been some time since our inaugural League President Graham Pauncefort passed away, and the league Executive committee is pleased to announce that the post has been offered to Don Shelley, who has gratefully accepted the role.

Anyone who has been involved in league matters over the it’s first 50 years of operation will recognise the amount of work and dedicated years of service Don has provided to the League.

In his time as League Results Secretary he has overseen the transition from clubs having to post in weekly results cards, to clubs moving to reporting of league results to various divisional answerphones, with a short period where faxed results were accepted. All this weekly information was then aggregated to produce league tables which were regularly then posted back out to clubs, and latterly posted on the league web site.

It should also not be forgotten that Don oversaw the production of the league’s annual fixtures during his near 50 years as League Fixture Secretary. Who can forget attending the league dinner and coming away with the multi-coloured photocopied booklet with the next season fixtures in it.

It was planned to announce Don’s appointment at the recent league AGM, but due to factors and circumstances outside the control of the Exec Committee, this did not happen as desired. This should take nothing away from Don’s appointment as the league’s second League President, a well deserved honour.

It is hoped that Don will be able to attend the league’s next Spring meeting when the formal process of welcoming Don into his new role can be formally accomplished.
