• Six a side tournament so apologies in advance that it will not be possible to select everyone!
• This is a new initiative for 2024 with safe enjoyment of cricket as the number one priority.
• The emphasis is on having a fun day but the format aims to strike the right balance with some competitive element by providing for 8 of the 12 teams to participate in some sort of a “final”.
• We will run four 15-yard grass pitches cut into the outfield for maximum game time and minimum waiting time.
• The aim of the format is to make for quick and exciting games of cricket by ensuring that teams of roughly similar ability (based on the morning group games) are placed in one of three separate mini knockout tournaments (in the afternoon).
Format
• Morning: Initial Group Stage (4 groups of 3 teams - 2 matches per team) followed by:
• Afternoon: Three separate knockout tournaments (each with a Semi Final and Final - so a maximum of 2 further matches per team):
“Trophy” - for the four 1st placed teams from the group stage
“Shield” - for the four 2nd placed teams from the group stage
“Plate” - for the four 3rd placed teams from the group stage
• There will also be a “Wildcard” final for the two “lucky” losing semi-finalists across each of the Trophy, Shield and Plate (based on smallest margin of defeat)
• Groups will be randomly drawn but with teams from different MJCA areas where possible.
Schedule
• Please arrive for 9am and be ready and warmed up by 9.30am prompt
• Presentation at 5pm – every player will receive a medal (please do stay!)
• The toss will be randomly pre-determined for all morning / group games
